Watch Lisa, creator of The Why I Move Project, and learn her reason WHY she is physically active today. One great reasons WHY to move is to explore your surroundings. Whether on vacation or not, find something new in your community!
"There are so many things to do, so many places to see, and to be able to do it with the people I love is a wonderful thing." "I am inspired by being active in nature. There are a whole lot of ways of moving outdoors that I love: Nordic walking, hiking, biking, snowshoeing, alpine and cross-country skiing, canoeing, kayaking, and horseback riding. On any given day, it can be stressful to choose how and where to be active outdoors! In the vicinity of my new home in Canmore there are endless options. I love experiencing the different seasons (it can NEVER be too cold!), taking in the scenery, the sounds, and smells. I love encountering and photographing wildlife. "Moving helps our brains, it helps us learn, it helps our mental wellness and well being, moving outdoors connects us with NATURE!" "I have discovered that driving during post work rush hour takes me just as long as cycling the 20 km distance and it beats staring at the car in front of me and watching out for crazy drivers who weave in and out of traffic hoping to get ahead. Cycling is freedom from traffic as I'm able to use River Valley and designated bike trails for most of my journey. I love the feel of wind and feel of speed, the warmth of sun on my face, the view of nature next to me and surprise visits from birds and critters that inhabit the trails. I feel privileged to have the opportunity to enjoy this journey and get some exercise at the same time. "Six and a half years ago, I made a conscientious decision to include a minimum of 10,000 steps as part of my day. The challenge was presented to me as I accepted a pedometer to do so. This will be easy! I’m an active person! WRONG! It took about three months to get that number of steps into a daily routine. Now I clip my pedometer on in the morning, just like I put on my glasses. I move not only for the health benefits and the fresh air, but because I CAN. I WANT to walk. I NEED to walk. I have now accumulated more than 26 million steps. Walking has become part of who I am." "In our culture today the most radical thing someone can do is live a healthy and active lifestyle. I move because I want to bust the paradigm that peak athletic performance cannot be reached on a vegan diet. I move quickly through mountains because it feels the most natural thing to do. I eat plants because it is the most natural thing to do. I move because I want to be closer to nature." "I move to connect with people, places, and nature. I move to be present and mindful. I move to stretch, breathe, and release. I move to smile, inspire, and pray. I move to heal, to create, and play." Love this Miss Ella Said written visual as much as we do?!?
