Being One With the Water

"Swimming for me is above fitness or training. Its the feeling of weightlessness and contact with water. Just flowing with water gracefully and to concentrate on each and every body part gives utmost pleasure. Swimming is a feel sport and you always try to improve and flow with the water and get in touch with our inner fish. After all, all living beings originated from water."

"Swimming connects me to life. It provides a way for me to see struggles and hard work as a way of dealing with what we all carry. The water calms me and awakens my spirit. The exercise strengthens my body and the experience calms my mind. Swimming is my zen!"

"There are an endless number of reasons why I swim. Here are just a few of them.

It reminds me that anything worth having requires hard work.

Reminds me to continually expand my horizons.

A good workout clears the mind.

It’s where I go to meditate.

I swim because there is a chance to be extraordinary.

That is why I swim."

Hang out With My Dad

"I run to hang to out with my Dad. At least that’s how it started.

My dad was a big track star in college. In middle school I naturally did the track thing. I was fairly good and continued in high school. What made it fun is that my dad would come to all my track meets...Since that 2-3 mile run was something I could hang with, I started to occasionally join my dad on a weekend run. I couldn’t tell you how often that occurred but I definitely have those memories. Coming home from college as well as afterwards (when now I ran much further distances) it was great joining my dad for a run. It was our little time to chat, something that would never happen otherwise. In fact, I’d stay up late hanging out with my mom and then wake up super early to have special Dad time. Man, I’d go home after those visits so sleepy.

So it was my dad who inadvertently taught me about discipline and a love of running. Make a workout plan and stick with it. Rain? Snow? It doesn’t make a difference. For as long as I can remember he was out there running every morning. No excuses.

Thanks, Dad, for that great habit!

Run to be fit. Enjoy running. Push yourself. No excuses.

Now I hope to pass that along to my little girls."

Why I Walk

"I walk because there was a time in my life when I could not. A time when I could not walk down a flight of stairs, walk my dog or across the room without being utterly exhausted.

I walk because I live in Solidarity with a Community that needs our Compassion and knowledge of the Science and Stigma that exist in order to create a safe place of Respect and understanding. I walk for a [HIV] community that needs us now more than ever."
