“Since activity is my number one self-care strategy, my life simply isn’t the same without it. Activity not only keeps my mind and body healthy, it also allows me to connect with friends and indulge my competitive side. I have a great group of friends that I train with, who help hold me accountable to training and keep me motivated to continue improving. I also routinely sign up for various races which helps to keep me motivated to get out there every morning.”

"I caught the fitness bug when I was ten years old. My sports master challenged my class to swim ten yards underwater at the local swimming baths – and the first person across the line would get sixpence. I won it and I haven’t stopped racing around since." "A question I have often been asked is, 'Why did you become a goalie?' That is a fantastic question. 'Why do you want pucks coming at you at 70 mph?' 'Why would you become a goalie after you have played defense for so long?' I usually laugh it off and say, 'I don’t know, it’s fun' with a smirk on my face. It does not make a ton of sense. The only genuine answer to these questions is that I enjoy it. I wanted to follow my passion. Sports are a unique opportunity to live in the moment and to enjoy what God has given you. I have also been asked why I have persevered through some rough seasons of hockey. I have been motivated every day to get better. Hockey is the most enjoyable thing I’ve ever done. There is a unique excitement about goaltending. Each shot, I get an opportunity to forget the goals I have let up in the past and I get a new chance at success. I love to play. I love to compete. I love to win. I am blessed to have the opportunity to use my God given talents and passions to glorify Him. "I love to jump, spin, perform, and compete. I love the feeling when you glide. I love my friends and coach." "Running has been a way for me to get out and stay active while staying healthy. I also realized very quickly that I was a fast runner for my age group. Since I’m a competitive person, I always try to win my age group, or at least place in the top 3. "This middle aged guy, who just ran a huge distance, who had just woken something inside himself, something that was fierce and tough and wanting to win. This guy would soon be making a return to athletics. And not just for fun but to actually be competitive." "Before I had moved for the pure unadulterated pleasure it gave me. Now I experienced proper competition [in sport] and everything that came with it and I loved it." |
