"Hitting the gym gives me a place to clear my head, push myself, and stay strong. Growing up I was always full of energy but didn’t actually become dedicated to moving every day until about eight years ago. After feeling the difference exercise made in my life, I wanted to help others reap the benefits of moving too. I’m fortunate enough to be in a position where I get to make this difference first-hand on a daily basis with the population I love most: older adults. Between research experiences and teaching classes in CPAH, I’ve seen so many older adults progress not only in their health and fitness but also in their self-confidence and social connections. It’s incredible to see what older adults are capable of in the gym- lifting weights with smiles on their faces and outlasting me on planks more often than I’d like to admit. I started moving because it gave me a way to relieve my stress and boost my mood. It just so happened to also provide a platform for my career that’s only just beginning. Now, I want to keep moving so I age as successfully as the older adults that fuel my passion."
"I LOVE to walk for my health, to get out with my dog, have some "awww" moments looking at nature and put me in a good, calm mood."
"With this new [running] routine, I saw immediate changes. My energy level was much higher, I felt as though my cognitive level increased, as I was much more alert to the world around me and was in such a good mood! At that point, I knew I would be a runner for the rest of my life."
