"There are two things that I love the most about running. The first is the feeling of accomplishment and pride when I run a distance I’ve never reached before, or PR in a race. It is a beautiful thing to discover that your body is capable of doing things that you once thought were impossible. The second thing I love about running is the amazing community it has brought into my life. I now have multiple running partners, and my long runs with them turn into amazing, in-depth conversations that bring us even closer together."

"...in 2009, after settling into a new town, my neighbor asked me the question… “are you a runner?” “Well, I run.” “Good, be ready to go tomorrow morning at 5:30.” I prepped like a race day and had my gear laid out the night before. Tested my headlamp. At 5:30 AM I ate half a banana with peanut butter and a few ounces of coffee. Then I found out that this five-mile loop we ran from our houses was done three times a week.
"Here’s why I [walk]:
"I walk because there was a time in my life when I could not. A time when I could not walk down a flight of stairs, walk my dog or across the room without being utterly exhausted.
"As my heart condition [microvascular myopathy] seems to have resolved itself, I’m now able to run again. But I’ve decided to continue with Nordic walking. Physical benefits aside, I love that it gives me time to enjoy the scenery, smell the flowers and have great conversations along the way. In fact, I believe in it so much that I’ve registered to become a certified instructor through Urban Poling. I can’t wait to share the benefits and enjoyment of Nordic walking with others.
