"I want to have a good body. I want to because I am vain. The idea is to turn the heads of the sexy young 70 year old girls on the beach."

Potential and Satisfaction

"I believe we have a responsibility to take care of our bodies, and for me, exercise is part of that responsibility. My gear goes in every bag I pack, and I always have a few pairs of running shoes on the go at one time. Running requires no membership and has no timetable. It can fit into any time that you have to give to it.  I have gone from training for a marathon with a running club to commuting to work to an afternoon trip around the neighbourhood. There is potential and satisfaction in each of these routines.

But I am not saying that running is easy or comes easy to me. It is work. Hard work. I have never been a particularly sporty person and was never very good at ball games in school. In the early days, running was about fitting fitness in my life. It is now not a question of if I will run and more when I will run.  It is fine to have a slow day or a slow year because there is an appealing challenge in improving. Running is not a straight line – the fitness is fleeting and the journey is a lifetime long. Often, the greatest challenge is being disciplined enough to put down whatever else you are doing and get out the door."

"It Is Never Too Late to Be What You Might Have Been."

"I tried to give blood but was turned away due to high blood pressure. This was new to me... I went to the doctor and he told me I was on my way to medication if I didn’t do something. That was not an acceptable answer to me, so I decided to do something about it. I started working out and using MyFitnessPal on March 1, 2014...

Mentally, I enjoy the solitude and time to think about things. I usually put things on a mental shelf for runs. Physically, my blood pressure is amazingly good now, no meds at all for anything."

"But there I was every Tuesday and Thursday, trying to sink deeper into Triangle pose, working to extend my Half Moon pose, wishing to unravel my hamstrings in Downward Dog. Why? Because it was free. And because I liked the idea of wrestling with a pose. I liked not doing a half-way job for 60 seconds and then moving on to the next thing. I wanted, desperately, to peel back the pose to its core."

Bicycle Around America

"My name is Brian and I am riding my bicycle this year for charity. This is not your typical ride "across" America. I've literally ridden AROUND the Continental United States! I've been on the road since May 4th, 2015, and have pedaled over 10,000 so far. Now, I'm on the final stretch up the east coast to get back to NYC. I would love for you to join me in the effort to raise money for a great cause. Along the way, I have been holding speaking engagements at schools of all levels, as well as various military and veteran organizations, libraries, and corporations.

Together, we can make a huge difference in the lives of thousands of children and families!"

- Brian D.

"I couldn't have been a happy person had I not had horses consistently throughout my life...if I hadn't had horses, to force me to get out of the house and take care of them, I wouldn't have the strength I have today."

Friendship Keeps Me Coming Back for More

"The friendships I have through running keep me coming back for more.  We are all busy women. A lot of us have small children, and children make for countless unfinished thoughts and conversations. When we run, no one is distracted or interrupted. Phones (and people) do not ring or ding or summon us back to our real lives. This is bliss. Running cuts away the crap, and you can really connect. You are not putting on your best face or best behavior. You are just out there running together. The talk that comes during a long run is real and genuine. I have learned intimate details about my friends’ lives that would never come up in a passing chat. We get real."
