"...a bike has provided my son with the opportunity for independent mobility and participation in the community."

"Personally, being involved in November Project has challenged me to open up, to take more risks and that payoff has been enormous! It is through the NP community that I met my Blitz community, my Lulu/Run Collective/RCR Runners community. It is through this community that I have made new friends, challenged my physical limits, and been privileged to share in people’s goals and achievements." Getting to ride with new AFLCA fitness leaders, Lisa talks about how she loves to move and teach at the same time. Getting to "pay it forward" is a great reason WHY to move!
"I climb mountains because I believe it helps others to climb their own mountains, whatever they may be." Madhu is not just about completing the challenge [swimming the Straits of Magellan starting in January 2015] – it is about building teams that can work together to push the barriers of human achievements, it’s about building friendships, communities and memories that last forever - It's Not About The Swimming. Madhu is currently training to become the 22nd person to successfully swim across the Straits of Magellan in January 2015. More people have been to outer space than to have swum across the Straits of Magellan! This crossing is rarely completed due to unpredictable fierce winds, sea conditions and extreme cold-water temperatures (sub 5°C). The strait is famous for having brought down some monster ships in the history.
"As an active transportation consultant, working to make communities more walk and bike friendly, when I moved to Canmore I wanted to "Walk the Talk." We downsized from being a two-car family living in suburbia, to one vehicle. It has been two years now and it has been great! We moved to a place that is a 5 minute bike ride to downtown and a 20 minute walk. It has been a breeze. It certainly helps me to get my daily dose of physical activity. Plus I am so concerned about the environment & climate change. Living in a walkable environment is about the most powerful thing individuals can do to reduce their carbon footprint and improve local air quality. The cost savings aren't bad either. According to the CAA we are saving about $10,000 per year. That is a substantial amount! “Some women in Africa have to take 80,000 steps every day to fetch water, so I wanted to go the same distance.” “When I was growing up as a kid, I never had opportunities to be around celebrities…with my career playing with the Harlem Globetrotters. I am able to give back all across the country. I truly love it. Whenever you can take a kid and put a smile on their face and allow them to enjoy what they are doing out there. It is very important.” “I choose to move with My Sisters’ Place to raise awareness surrounding domestic violence. Team MSP allows me to combine my love of fitness with my love of advocacy. It has given me the opportunity to share My Sisters’ Place with groups and individuals I may not have had the opportunity to reach otherwise.” “I needed to showcase my elite running to the people of the Arctic to teach the youth what it’s like for me to run. Maybe spark some kids to do running, running marathons. Or maybe I can inspire a youth with addiction to come to his breakthrough moment" |
