"Before I retired, sport and fitness was always just for fun – a hobby alongside my full-time job. Even so, after joining a running club in my 40s, I managed to travel all over the world competing in sprint races in my spare time.

“I’d rather go along knowing that at least I gave it a shot…yes there are physical limitations, there are physical obstacles and challenges if you want to do something bad enough, you will find a way to do it. it doesn’t matter if you are disabled, differently abled, or able-bodied - everybody, anybody. If you want something bad enough and you are willing to put in the time, effort and energy and have a don’t quit, never give up attitude. Any thing is possible." "Dance for me is so much more than exercise. I have always been happiest when dancing...Some days I am better at it than others, but what is clear is that dance defines how I approach every day. There is a saying that ballet is training for life." "I move because it is FUN! I think the process is fun, I think the people I meet in my group exercise classes are fun AND the improvements I see in myself (physically and emotionally) are fun to watch. I love bringing my preschool children with me to the group exercise classes I teach and having them see that exercise is fun and rewarding and just a part of life. My dream for them is to always view exercise as a fun activity and not a punishment or just a means to an end. We move because WE WANT TO MOVE! "It's a big, beautiful world out there and I keep moving so I am able to enjoy every second I get to spend in it!!!" "I climb mountains because I believe it helps others to climb their own mountains, whatever they may be." "As an active transportation consultant, working to make communities more walk and bike friendly, when I moved to Canmore I wanted to "Walk the Talk." We downsized from being a two-car family living in suburbia, to one vehicle. It has been two years now and it has been great! We moved to a place that is a 5 minute bike ride to downtown and a 20 minute walk. It has been a breeze. It certainly helps me to get my daily dose of physical activity. Plus I am so concerned about the environment & climate change. Living in a walkable environment is about the most powerful thing individuals can do to reduce their carbon footprint and improve local air quality. The cost savings aren't bad either. According to the CAA we are saving about $10,000 per year. That is a substantial amount! “I move because I relish the feeling I have afterwards! One of my favorite ways to move is going on a brisk 30-minute jog. It’s enough time for me to get my heart racing, plus it’s a convenient way for me to catch up on some of the podcasts I listen to.” |
